And you thought that only WDFW was greedy
« on: April 28, 2014, 11:28:55 AM »
Prior to 2014, the cost for a non-resident to apply for a moose, goat, or sheep tag in Montana was $25 per specie.

Starting in 2014, the cost is $70 per specie.

This is supposedly offset by a non-resident no longer being required to front the tag cost at the time of application.

Draw ddds for the better permits are in the 1% to 2% range; some better, some far worse.

The net effect will likely be that elimination of fronting the cost will result in more new applicants which in turn makes draw odds worse. Those who have supported Montana for many years will be stuck either throwing away their points, or being forced to pay more to stay in the game.
Nature. It's cheaper than therapy.

You could up front the cost of NR Idaho moose tag @ $2,101.75  + you need an Idaho license to apply @ $154.75.  If not drawn you do get your tag fee back, but you are still out the $154.75 license plus application fee of $14.95.

You are right though...there is a reason draw success in Idaho is better!  Not sure I would call Montana greedy though.  Seems like a reasonable way to maintain revenue, while reducing refund process labor and postage.  If it were a business instead of government agency that would be a smart business practice IMO.
He asked, Do you ever give a short simple answer?  I replied, "Nope."
