"X" Marks the Spot - #3

No long winded story here. It's the 5th day of your 7 day hunt; bull only area; the wind is in your favor. You're 27 yards directly where this bull is staring and are at full draw. Are you shooting? If so, put an "X" on the spot your arrow is heading.

Reminder that if you save the picture to your desktop and open in MS Paint, you'll be able to place a spot, X, or whatever on the critter before you save it back to a jpg and add the marked up pic with your post.

I'm not wild about this shot, and if that branch is moving at all in the wind I'm not letting the arrow go. 

Edit:  I would make sure I hugged the bottom of the green circle with my 30 yard pin, which should give me an 1" to 2" clearance.

I had this same view of a heck of a mule deer buck last year at 35 yards and ended up letting him walk.

Im on the phone so I cant put a dot but at basically up an to the left of jls....my arrow should go above the brushing and come back down into the sweet spot....

Good one, I have stared at this for quite awhile trying to figure a spot that I could aim.  Assuming that branch is somewhere between 12 and 17 yards away from me I was trying to figure the rise and fall of my arrow.  27 yards just isn't far enough out for me to get over the limb and drop in.

Unfortunately I would have to pass on this one, maybe with a lower poundage bow that didn't shoot as flat as mine I would think differently.

Thanks for posing the question, you are keeping me anxious for elk season.

Both shots that I see posted in my opinion are bad choices.  That shoulder on any elk scares me not to mention shooting through brush.

If the elk were at 42-43 yards and if the branch were at 18-20 yards I would shoot with my 40 yard pin half way between the two dots and back about 2-3".  But like I say based on the description given and my bow, no shot for me.

I figured the brush to be at 20 yards..kinda hard to tell tho


This is a good one...pretty common set up in brushy country...knowing where your arrow is at 1,5,10 & 15 yards is huge when shooting in brush

If that elk is 1 or 2 yards past that brush you'd probably be okay shooting right through it.  Any further and id say you are setting yourself up for disappointment.

No archery shot at this moment.  The real question for me is whether his stare lasts longer than my full draw. Doubtful.  The let down spooks him and we're on to the next opportunity, which may be him later today.
