What if WDFW knows about this and the dangers they present to humans?  What if they have known it for years?   :yike:  would be an understatement...... it would be criminal.

Good read.

lots of good questions.  Still have to wonder why WDFW is always so resistant to any kind of help (seems to be a common theme with them)?

Fantastic article; and disturbing in the implications of bureaucratic malfeasance.

WOW. Just WOW. If this theory is proven then the WDFW has put the nails in their own coffin. Unbelievable.
:yeah:

Of all the different stuff I have heard about hoof-rot and the supposed causes and remedies to the problem, I would have to say that theory makes far more sense than anything else. Also makes me feel like us hunters should have a little more say in who is appointed at WDFW.

Makes me not want to hunt elk around here anymore. Good time to quit anyway, since most of the elk hunting is on Weyerhaeuser land which now costs anywhere from $150 to $250 per person to hunt it.

Isn't it funny that they began charging an access fee when elk numbers are at an all time low?   ???

This is alarming to read because of the implications to people. I am again amazed that WDFW is refusing to allow an outside person or group to assist them with the investigation of a sensitive issue. Clearly it supports the belief that they want to control access to facts to those who they can manage or censor.  What other reason would there be to refuse free assistance from qualified, competent sources on so many of their projects while, at the same time, bemoaning their lack of funding for that very project?  I hope the doctor is allowed to help. The people and elk of Washington deserve the help.
And I think God must be a cowboy at heart

And trails to lead ol' cowboys home again

I hope the Dr. is able to find funding and a research ally somewhere that outranks the WDFW, like the Department of Health, CDC, UW or the like.  His ideas may amount to nothing, or they may be spot on.

pretty disturbing, i feel really bad for those elk suffering from this, no animal should have to endure something like this, especially if it is caused by man, which i beleive its a direct affect from herbacides or pesticides.... i also beleive this is an avenue for them to deploy wolves to the effected areas, i could see this easily happening, i also beleive they know exactly what causes this and they dont want to let the cat out of the bag :twocents:

If I read that article correctly,  that bacteria can affect canines too. If wolves in the area started getting sick from it you can bet wdfw will be falling all over themselves to get to the bottom of it.
May I always be the kind of person my dog thinks I am.

I was thinking the same thing. Once wolves get over here and start eating all the sick elk, are the wolves going to die from the disease as well?
