I was at Joe Watt today.
« on: May 01, 2014, 04:30:22 PM »
I was the twenty fourth vehicle in line and what a cloud of dust going up the drainage!  I hiked for about seven hours and only found a set of deer antlers.  A mature fork horn.  I saw several people carrying antlers so I guess there were still some left.  One guy I walked by had a decent six-point and I hailed "you got a nice one there", but he only scowled at me and kept walking.  Saw his buddy below and he had a good one too.  Also saw an ATV parked along side Page-Pasture road with several antlers tied on but no driver in sight.  This was about 7:00 am.  I guess he picked them up driving up the road.  I just looked at the antlers from a distance because I was wondering if it was a trap.  Not a trusting soul ya-know.  I had a good hike and wow the temperature was climbing.  Saw some elk and more deer than past years.
Anyone else want to report?

The elk were scattered all over this year while they were still packing. No snow to concentrate them.
And I think God must be a cowboy at heart
He made wide open spaces from the start
He made grass and trees and mountains and a horse to be a friend
And trails to lead ol' cowboys home again

Ya it was about the same, not as many people up top which was pretty nice. I could glass a ridge and not see 2 or 3 people walking all over it. Saw a lot of bone picked up today

Did well also! Thought the same thing, I could work a few ridges and have them to myself.
