Tree stands for fat guys
« on: May 04, 2014, 11:41:23 PM »
I am a large man, pushing 300lbs.  I want a lockon that can handle the pressure of my girth.  Any recommendations?  A climber will work as well, but I would rather have a lock-on.  I do not want a ladder stand.

I'm about your size and I have been using an API Grandslam Super Magnum climber for 12-14 or so years and love it.  I've been in a lot of stands and it is the most comfortable and fastest climber that I have used.  It is so comfortable that I fall asleep in the damn thing almost every time I use it.  :chuckle:  The only downside is that it is bulky and gets to be a little heavy after a few miles of packing it through the brush.

The API Grand Slam Super Magnum from what I hear is no longer available.  The new model being the GCL505-A Magnum (climber).  It is the only 350# rated stand in their line according to my chart.  The only other ones listed at 350# are the Lone Wolf hang on, Summit Golliath and all the TreeWalker stands.  Most every other stands on my mfg list are rated to only 300#.  I have spent some time in the Summit stand and like the API it is very comfortable.  However, with more than 50% of the treestand recalls being Summit or Ol'Man brands it makes me hesitant to get into one again ;)  I have never been in a TreeWalker, but the reviews are good.

I know you said no ladder stands, but it's pretty easy to find 400# rated ladder stands.  And very few recalls on them!
He asked, Do you ever give a short simple answer?  I replied, "Nope."

Here's one you might try.  :chuckle: I'm pretty big, myself.

well 92xj, I would like it to have a brick fireplace and the best lazyboy you can find at goodwill.  Make that one luxurious tree stand!   :chuckle: :chuckle:

Done it once for you, minus the fireplace, guess I could add that in version two.
