Eniat archery tag
« on: November 28, 2008, 02:59:49 PM »
Here is my update on this tag. Got back Wed. night for Turkey day. Myself saw lots of deer every day. Plenty of smaller 24-26" bucks, and one really nice 28+ buck. Weather was not favorable, it had snowed in early Nov. and now was very frozen and crunchy on top where the snow was. To make a long story short, finally got on the big buck Mon. 35 yards mounting the doe, drewback, got about twothirds draw and my release broke, off ran buck. This was a huge revert buck that was a 2 point with lots of mass, 4" eyeguards and would have went an honest 340+ pounds on the hoof. All in all I had my chance a huge buck and blew it. They are definetly in full rut right now and if the weather gets better(more snow) should be a good second week. Wish I had picturesto show everyone instead of a close call story. Guess thats why it is called hunting and not getting!

Well I'm sorry that you didnt get your big deer.  I'm gonna be up there starting sunday so its good to her that the deer are in there.  Also how are the roads?  They getting bad yet?  I hope if you go hunting again this year you can get a shot.

small 24-26 inch bucks? Maybe your standards are kinda high?  Its the Entiat, not Colorado/Wyoming.  :chuckle:

Hope you get a buck!

Them small 24-26 inch bucks wouldnt of made it long, think I would have taken one of them over a regressed 2 point, any big deer killed that you seen.

I didn't see a deer killed while I was there. If you would have seen the 2pt. you would not have went after the other bucks. yea my standards were high, but I did have a shot at damn good buck. He is still there and should be in the potatoe creek drainage now, hope someone gets him in the next hunt.

So far roads are not a problem, should be able to cover any ground you want to right now.

My wife and i are headed to Leavenworth for a day. I told her we have to spend at least one day up in the Eniat to look for some deer. Leaving this sunday night and will be in the Eniat on Tuesday morning. Wondering if anybody needs help looking for a big buck?

Can i give you some advise and get a map. there are many roads that come from leavenworth area that spill into the entiat!  Might save you some miles on the highway.  However if you do take the highway look for big-horn between wenatchee and entiat, you cant stop but its still cool to see them along the highway!
