Ice Fishing
« on: November 29, 2008, 11:20:19 PM »
Has anyone here in the forum Ice Fished in Washington State?  My parents live in Medical Lake, we would go down to Fourth of July lake once the ice was good and solid (minimum 2" thick) and go Ice Fishing.  I live just north of Seattle in Shoreline now.  Does anyone know where I can take my son close to Seattle to Ice Fish?  He has never done it and is really interested to try.  Last year we went up to Stevens Pass and built an Igloo and then spent the night in it.  This winter we will do it again but wanted to try something different as well.

Thanks in advance....

Good luckon the west side.  None of the lakes over there get cold enough.  You will have to drive over the mountains or very high.
Will hunt for food.

wet side. mild wet winters and mild summers. sometimes the mud puddles freeze over lol.

for a good sized pond or lake to freeze over it has to stay below freezing for at least several days. wet side doesnt usually supply that.

It sounds like it's time to get a new gun.

Yep. There are always plenty of ice fisherman there when we are snowmobiling in the winter.

And you wouldn't catch me fishing on 2" of ice. I know when I ice fished in minnesota the ice was more like 8" thick. That I felt okay with.

Fish Lake is one of the ones my son heard about.  I plan on checking the regs here real shortly and if I get the chance I am going to call WDFW and see what info they may have on it.  Grew up ice fishing in South Dakota (Pactola Reservoir) and eastern Montana (Fort Peck Reservoir and many other reservoirs).  Nothing funner than pulling a fat walleye, northern pike or trout through the ice.

Thanks for the nfo.  Will continue to monitor for any other possibilities.
