My first bear, hard to believe at age 60 to have never shot one. I had the spring
Tag before but could not putin the time. I went out 3 times before getting
This one 6/2 made it home before the big Tstorm last night. I had 4
Colored bears spotted with this the only shot opportunity. Mule Sally
Was not thrilled but with a blindfold I got her loaded. I had a few days
While hunting to come up with a yarn of a story. Like no warning shot
Needed and by merely showing my pistol the bear gave up at 180yds.
I thought that sounded good Should make a real nice rug, no rubbing
And very dense hair. Jeff in Dayton has the hide, I drove an hour and a half
With the a/c on high the hide in the passenger seat with meat bags
tucked around it was 90 here.

I really did not take those pics upside down. Can someone fix it or tell me how? I have some more to add to the story if they come right side up.

Nice job! I was just going to pmyou and ask when the peak of the bear rut is? I was in the wenaha just two weeks ago and didn't see much activity. Congrats on your first bear, the hide looks great!

The "average" bear doesn't do much for me but that one is a beaut!

If you can get at it soon that is my advice. The temps are climbing snow patches leaving and they will be rubbing soon. I actually hollered at a young one grazing in the trail on my way out yesterday. Again another cinnamon color. Best to locate the boars before the rut otherwise they are cruising and hard to catch up to. This was a dry sow that was on the grass about 10am.

thanks Dave, my friends have the permits and they don't plan on going back this year. I was asking for me when I draw next year with 6 points!! Were you by the Troy area by any chance? A radio tower?

My first trip was out of Troy early. That is a long drive pulling horses. I was much closer to home the last 2 trips. The snow has really gone quickly the last 2 weeks.

Todd,,, did you read my story? Did I mention even firing a shot? Mine just gave up when I showed my pistol. I have been waiting all day to be able to post that. Now the real story I used my .338-06 at 206yd. Instant dirt nap nary a wiggle. I did have a great time by myself not often I get a chance like that.

So, I thought your warning shot on a Wenaha bear was a pretty pertinent comment.

Todd, I loved your story and the"warning shot" stuck with me. That is why I worked out my story before I had even located a bear. My season was spent alone and I really enjoyed it. I thought my bear giving up without a shot fired went well with your story.

You however worked much harder than I did on the pack out. I rode my horse to the bear and a really good mule packed it all for me.
