hunters ed for a guy with a felony?

I know a guy with a checkered past who wants to start bow hunting. He can't handle firearms, so I was wondering if anyone knew if there was a way he could take hunters ed.  I remember to pass when I took it, I had to shoot a .22 and walk the course with non working firearms. I don't know if he could do either? Thanks!

Before the class the instructors asked if anyone was a felon and if so, to please notify them in person before the firearms handling portion took place. The could announce it in class with people present or one on one in private.

Either way one could still take the course. Just cannot handle any firearms.

Can confirm; I took hunter ed about a month ago and the instructor explicitly asked at the beginning if anyone needed this accommodation. No in my class one did, but they were ready to offer it.

Also, before class ( to prepare the instructor ) usually you get information on your hunter's ed class including an email address of an instructor. We emailed the instructor ahead of time to let him know, because we found out sometimes they are not ready to accommodate a felon. What our instructor did was have Smossy take the field test using a bow as his "rifle" including all muzzle control testing, which meant they needed to have a bow available etc. Then they just bypassed the shoot portion since that's not part of your grading, only handling of the weapon is.

When I sat through my son's class, there was a felon in the class.  As Smossy's Girl related, they had him do the field portion with a bow.
