Son Drew 667 Late Buck Tag- ideas outside Vail tree farm?

So, the story is my 16yo son has the quality deer tag for 667- runs from November 1-24. He has taken a couple does, but has yet to kill a buck. He's busy with football all summer and fall and has limited time to hunt until after football is over. Thought this tag would give him a chance for a decent buck. He'd be happy with any buck.
We were unable to secure the Vail permit (realize that was a gamble.... ). Spent 5 years' of points...
We've hunted 667 a lot- but always on the tree farm.
So I'm asking if anyone is willing to share a tip or two on areas outside the Vail tree farm that might be worth a look. I can invest quite a bit of time scouting this summer and I am somewhat familiar with the land in the unit, just never learned it for hunting purposes.
So if anyone is willing to share a general location we could start, it would be much appreciated. PM preferred.
Thanks, all.

The good thing about 667 is that's a huge GMU. You might try scouting forest road 74 out of Elbe going toward Morton. it's on the right, after you pass the turn off to go to Mineral. I was up there last year, there are some new cuts that you can see from the highway. Lots of road in there to drive and see what you can find. Down the road closer to Morton, there are gated roads that go in from the highway. you might have to bike in there aways. If you take a right in Morton, and head towards Onalaske, there are some roads into there also. I haven't been down there for a while, not sure what is gated. I hunt in Hancock, but I still scout a few other areas too, so if I run across anything, I will let you know. Tried to PM you, but it wouldn't load.

I am not all that knowledgeable about this area as I have only lived up this way for the last two seasons and spent both of them in Capital Forrest. But I did go down and go through the Adventure Center on JBLM for access to hunt on base.
I believe there are some training areas around the Yelm - Rainier area that may be in the Skookumchuck GMU?
If I am wrong, hopefully someone will chime in and clear up my mistake.
It is not that big of a deal, background check and register the weapons you will be carrying on base, watch a video and I believe it was $10.00 for civilians and you get a pass good for a year to enter and hunt areas that are not being used for training.
May be something worth looking into, i was using the rifle range alot a couple years ago, and there were some nice sized deer that would poke their noes out every now & then.
Good luck and keep us posted.

Negative. Familiar with the name- don't know anything about access- he owns land near the steam plant, right?
