Anyone with experience w obtaining a crossbow permit?
« on: June 16, 2014, 05:56:16 PM »
My dad is already a disabled hunter here in wa, two heart surgeries and another one around the corner.  He has hunted archery for more than 25+ years and really doesn't want to switch to rifle.  Pulling the bow back is getting to be more and more difficult.  I was wondering if any of you guys have tried to get a crossbow permit latley? I've heard in the past it was really tough, I called today and they are supposed to call me back tomorrow.  I guess we'll see, I just was hoping somone who has succeeded in the process could give info.  Thanks.

Look up disabled hunter in virtual campfire all the info you need is there. I went through the process and my crossbow special use permit. My was straight forward due to a birth defect in my arm. My dad got one too but his process took alot longer and alot of Dr visits.

He doesn't want to switch to modern firearm season or doesn't want to use a rifle... because you can use a crossbow in modern firearm without a special use permit.

he wants to keep with the bow season, he's been in the same camp for many years, plus that season is waaaaay more fun.

Isnt it only allowed in firearm restricted areas?

Couldn't tell by your post if he actually started the application process, but those are more guidelines. Looks like the first step is gathering doctor letters/records that are in line with the requirements.

We researched it in depth for a while a couple years ago (Smossy being a felon, didn't know if he wanted to do archery or try crossbow for modern season). I lost all my favorited links from back then.

It is only allowed in firearm restricted areas or if you have a special use permit. So say if you were hunting the teanaway during modern season you would not be allowed to use a crossbow unless you had a special use permit
