Out of State OTC Tags
« on: June 10, 2014, 07:51:12 AM »
So I'm a little late to the out-of-state tag game this season, but I was wondering what, if any, western states offer Non-Res OTC tags that are worth looking into.  I'm already looking at the leftover Wyoming Antelope tags that are released in July.  I'm generally thinking DIY hunts on private land, not outfitter or landowner preference tags with huge fees.

Leftover tags in Wyoming (antelope, deer, and elk) and Idaho general seasons are your best bet at this time.

You should be able to buy a Montana deer tag as well. They have a quota for non residents but I'm pretty sure they haven't sold out yet.

Interesting...  I just went out to Montana's website and they appear to have both Deer and Elk available.  It looks like I will be headed to Montana sometime later this year.  Does anyone have any comments on what would offer a better opportunity for my first trip to Montana?  I'd probably plan to stick to the west side.

Deer is definitely a better bet, probably in any state.  Check out the Block Management program in addition to public ground.

Depending on weapon, Oregon has OTC as well. If you are looking for a good deer hunt in Western Montana, I know a few good spots for whities.

Arizona has otc ARCHERY deertags in December and January.  Hunt deer in the rut while its 70 and you wear a tee shirt  :IBCOOL:

MT has left over General Tags for both Deer and Elk (i.e., didn't sell out in the drawing).
Oregon has OTC Elk for Archery
Idaho has OTC for both Deer and Elk

All good options

Colorado is probably the OTC elk king, about $600 if I remember right which is relatively not too shabby.
