Scotty Downrigger Help
« on: June 20, 2014, 08:45:38 AM »
I'm going to try to see about getting a Scotty Downrigger (not a Walker like my previous post).  Does anyone have any insight if a 30" boom on the 1101 would be better than the 24" boom on the 1099?  My boat is a 13' whaler and I'd like to use it for coho/pinks etc in the salt.  The boat can turn a pretty tight circle in the water so maybe the 1101 would be the way to go?  Thanks for any suggestions.

I've got a 15 foot whaler and the 1101's work great.  Get the swivel bases so you don't have to lean out over the rail too far.

Whalers don't have a natural place to flush mount a rigger because the gunwales aren't wide enough, so you'll either need to get a rail mount (which is kind of flimsy) or go with some sort of custom mount.  I went the latter route and am really happy with it - some company out of Bellingham that makes them.  You can see the mount in the attached pic.  They are rock solid.

Getting power to the right spot can also be tricky because whalers are foam filled and you can't run power cords through the hull.  So keep that in mind when you're figuring out where/how to mount it.

Thanks for the help.  Sounds like the 1101 is the way to go.

Go with the longer telescoping booms and pick up the Scotty No. 3025 weight retriever, then you wont need to worry about leaning over the rail.
The things that come to those who wait, may be the things left by those who got there first!

Gobbledoc,

I have two scotty swivel bases, mounting plates, and mounting brackets. I also have 2 custom made thick aluminum mounting plates. These are extras that I do not need anymore. Check the prices on new. PM me your number and we can talk prices.
