Colockum
« on: July 02, 2014, 11:55:16 PM »
Haven't been up here for 20 years when my pops got his 4x4 bull.  How is the hunting.. Any one know where to put some boots to the ground.  Is it true spike and antler  now.  Thanks

I drove over colockum pass Sunday for the first time Sunday in my car :bdid: :yike:. We did see a few elk up there it's a whole lot different than what i'm a costume to hunting.

Interesting. My four day weekend might be slipping. I was going to scout it this weekend but was told that area would be a zoo. So I am heading elsewhere.

With 475 cow tags alone in archery yes it is gonna be a complete zoo. Roads will be rush hour on I-5. True spike bull only is what is open for general season.

You drove over the pass in your car... :chuckle:

There's a road up the south side of Naneum ridge I'd love to see you do in your car.  While you're at it, why not head down the Brewton road, lots of elk down there.

Enough sarcasm, you should try 1 mile south of the reserve on the pass road (you drove right by) and hike east toward the power lines. Find some cover and sit.  I hate giving up my secrets but one thing I can guarantee is there are no secrets in the Colockum.

It's a shame grouse springs got torched few years ago behind mission ridge. Monster bulls would hide out there from the pressure of 4 corners in the colockum, that area and Haney meadows are all burnt up on google earth and road 9712 from wenatchee @ devils gulch parking has been closed last few years.

I was mad when they took the cows away..but I've stuck plenty of spikes.  I agree that there is going to be a flood gate opened so i'm going to bounce out to a new zone.  Hate to leave I've hunted the 328 since '90, but now i'm going to make it harder on myself and hunt the 117 for horns lol...have fun!  It really shouldn't be to bad..all those hunters should push them around good, if they get out and hunt lol not just drive around.. it's just my excuse to move.

How about the sage country around Whiskey Dick mountain? Can you still hunt there or does PSE hold a tight grip on it?

I  hear it's guaranteed if you go anywhere in the colockum and find cover and sit... I may have to run up there and whack one myself...
