First time calling II - fist time howler
« on: July 12, 2014, 10:48:30 PM »
I've been practicing with a Primos Hot Dog for a few weeks now and finally had to take it out tonight.

Within minutes this lady showed up. Kind of a confidence killer when your calling coyotes and mule deer show up instead. Sorry for the bad picture, wasn't really set up for taking shots with the camera (pretty sure the rifle would have worked at this 30 yard distance though haha).

Then after a bit I got coyotes to answer. Pretty exciting because I didnt think I was that good yet! Got one to show up and stupid me shot right over the top of him. But I went over to check the dirt for blood just in case, turns out he was less than 50 yards from this little guy. So hopefully I saved a fawn tonight even though I missed the coyote. No wonder that doe looked so hard to find me when I first started calling!

Calling is certainly addicting and stays on your brain why didnt you guys stop me! It's going to get expensive I can already tell.

I did the same except I played a fawn distress on purpose and watched as a doe ran 600 yrds to about 50'.

Heard some people using fawn distress calls during the rut. In fact seen a show where they did it in MT or WY. It was so freaking cool watching these does come running and a big ole muley chasing their tail. It was very effective that day.
Hey! I'm not a complete idiot I have parts missing. Though sometimes I wonder.

If you want to make God laugh tell him your plans.

I agree, lots of times my calling has brought in deer, and about the same time a coyote shows up too. That exact thing happened last week to me out by Tiger Lake. Calling, locate and see deer, look a little more, there's a coyote.

If your howling is bringing in deer, you are doing it right. Esp. this time of year.

One time I was blowing my Howler and 8 does came running over the hill looking like they were ready to kick some coyote butt.  They ran back over the hill as soon as they saw that it was only me!  :chuckle:
If it was easy, everybody would be doing it.

When Bernie Madoff did it, it's called a "Ponzi Scheme"
When Government does it, it's called "Social Security"
