Bull Elk?
« on: July 15, 2014, 03:58:51 PM »
This is my first year setting up a salt lick.  I am on the westside and have set up several trail cams over some salt licks (mineral salt with selenium), and consistantly get pictures of a herd of elk,  but never get any of bulls.  Are they with the cows this time of year?  Am I doing something wrong?  Thanks in adavance for any help.

Just be patient. If your in a good area you should see bulls eventually. I got a lot of elk pics and the bulls seemed to be hanging together right now. And then groups of cows and calves together. I'd give it a couple more weeks, and if you don't see any consider changing spots.

It usually takes a couple years to fully establish a salt lick. Bulls are off on their own right now but will be moving in with the cows pretty soon.

Took my salt lick about 48 hours to take off. If anything, I've found salt to not be as effective on the west side. Dunno. I agree with the cows and bulls being seperate right now.
