Grimes Lake.. Anyone?
« on: July 16, 2014, 09:45:48 AM »
I want to fly fish it in a couple weeks.  Does it bloom with algae in August?

I don't believe Grimes gets the algae like Jameson, hence the reason the cutts are in there, but it will be 80 degree water by August.

I know... The fish will be deep and lethargic...  I've just never fished it.  I would hit it at dawn if I do.

Pretty sure it gets weed choked.  Does it have weird reg's like early closure then it reopens or am I thinking of Jameson?

Tes, you're thinking of Jameson. Grimes is an alkali lake and weeds are never a problem.

Bring a depth finder and target the underwater springs releasing colder water. If I remember about 35- 40 ft of water. The lahontans will congregate by the springs this time of year. Fast sinking lines with chronimids. :dunno:

That is exactly what I was thinking for this lake. Jackalope suggested the same.  I'll keep eye out for whatever is hatching near the shoreline too. Sinking line with Carey special, green/black Chronimids, Rusty Bugger with a fan worked well on Big Twin and Jameson recently. I found a topo of Grimes so I have an idea where the holes are, but I don't have a depth finder on the inflatable.
