Another stolen camera
« on: July 22, 2014, 11:32:52 AM »
Went to pull my camera last night, and the tree was empty.

Bushnell HD, black led,  Steel bear box,   Python cable.

All gone.  You would have thought they would have dumped the cable if they cut it.

This was about a mile in on public land.

What is the best way to protect your gear (besides C-4)?

It has helped me to place them high in a tree and angle down. 12-16' up then python cable
https://www.howlforwildlife.org/take_action  It takes 10 seconds and it’s free. To easy to make an excuse not to make your voice heard!!!!!!

:yeah: you don't get quite as much of a picture view but it helps to put them up high

If you angle them correctly, pointed far enough away, you still get a good field of view.  This camera is 11 ft up.  And for the record i would skip the python lock.  Makes them more visible to thieves.  If a thief sees the camera and is willing to go home to fetch a ladder, I am sure they would also be willing to fetch some bolt cutters while they're at it. :twocents:

I have considered putting mine up higher in the tree but that would entail me not only packing in my salt or whatever but also packing in something to get me up into said tree...  :yike: I also worry a bit about trigger issues with it being up in the tree a ways and pointing down. Feel like it wouldn't be as efficient in catching movement but I could be completely wrong
