I know i will most likely get flamed on this one....but whats the point of killing these for? Its an honest question. I have never hunted varmits and/or know nothing about them. Are they a pest that does damage ,does anyone eat them or is it just for sport?

To hunt and butcher an animal is to recognize that meat is not some abstract form of protein that springs into existence tightly wrapped in cellophane and styrofoam.

does anyone eat them

They are eaten in some places.  A friend of mine was visiting some relatives in Virginia and was invited for dinner saying they just got a groundhog.  His exact quote was:  "If I never eat groundhog again, it will be too soon!"  :chuckle:
If it was easy, everybody would be doing it.

When Government does it, it's called "Social Security"

I've never seen one skinned so I don't really know but they seem like they are mostly belly.  They don't look like they'd have much actual meat to them but like I said, I've never seen one skinned.  I have checked them out after I popped them with my 6-284 and they sure do explode nicely when struck with a 87gr. Vmax that was launched at 3600fps.

I ate a young groundhog back in the 60's and in old school tradition I "rocked" him as he was attacking me.  This was on a bicycle hunt and I had to carry him back dangling from the handle bars.

Back in the 80's when I hunted rockchucks in eastern WA I wanted to do a "taste test" with a young rockchuck.  Shot one in the throat, flipped him over to begin skinning..... I found way too many fleas and lice for my taste and gave up on the taste test.
