ELK in the wrong place
« on: July 28, 2014, 11:28:01 AM »
On June 4 I went out to my Daughters farm.  They said they had
some Elk on the property lately.  About an hour before sunset my
Grandson said "there they are."  Sure enough there were three cows out
in the wheat field.  My daughter later told me they were around for 6 days.

Got an email yesterday and she said last Wed and Thurs there were 6 Elk
in the fields.  Four cows and two new calves.

Now over the last 30-40 years we have occasionally had a lone Moose or
Cow Elk pass through the county.  They never stayed in one place and
appeared to be on a mission to get somewhere specific.  These Elk seem
to have been pushed across the river by something and once on this side
have been trying to get oriented to new surroundings.

The kids land borders up against wooded ground so I don't know if they will
set up residence or move on but this has basically been a new situation.
The kids have lived there for 23 years and it is the first time they have seen
Elk on their property.

Lincoln county is probably 95% private property so don't get any ideas fellas.

Lincoln county does in fact have a resident elk population. I have seen them off and on when i was growing up. Dont spend much time out there anymore but im guessing the elk are still around.
