Antler growth
« on: July 28, 2014, 03:52:03 PM »
I would imagine that it depends on environment, but what is a general rule of thumb as to when the bulls stop growing? I saw a couple young bulls the other day and it prompted me to ask. So, how are the bulls growing in the areas you know? Have seen a couple that have bumps that look like they could be another point, just not sure if those will keep growing or if it is what it is at this time of year.

They're pretty much done on the east side. Younger bulls might have little more to grow but that's it. I've got 15-20 bulls on my cameras and I think they're all pretty much done.

:yeah: Won't be long, maybe a week or two, until you start seeing some early rubs popping up. I have seen hard horned bulls in mid august but have also seen them in velvet in late sept and early oct.

Good to know.  I have a couple that I will have to wait to see. The bulls that I had on camera I haven't for about a month.  I'm still getting younger bulls and cows tho.

Your bulls will be back in a little while if the cows stick around.

A few years back I was hiking a trail by Mt Adams dark divide. August 5th.  Spotted something red in the bushes. Elk velvet!
