So after 12 years I drew another bull tag. Not my first choice as Im a Peaches Ridge junky, but Rimrock is a nice area. So heres the issue, Ive spent some time there but not much.

Im not looking for honey holes, I just need some advice. How do I not think about this hunt everyday until Oct. How can I stop myself from reading maps daily looking for that one elky spot. How do I stop myself from testing my 20plus years of elk hunting knowledge. How do I not drive over there every weekend and burn through two pairs of boots before the season starts. (I still have crab, salmon and tuna to kill.) How do I not try and do this on my own, the hard way, with preperation, scouting and hard work....

Im so lost, Please Help. :chuckle:
My wife told me just yesterday "you need to stop obsessing". I tried to explain it's not that easy.

Its very steep and very nasty. But a ton of fun. I had the tag last year. I came close a couple of times bit just couldn't close the deal. That are like ghosts over there. Pinegrass ridge area is awesome. Get there on the opener though. Gets hunted hard but at least you feel like you can see more than five yards in front of you. I loved Shorty and dirty ridge, hell of a hike though. Also around kloxhman rock i got into a lot of elk. I wish you luck. It was the best summer ever looking forward to that hunt and scouting. I had never stepped foot in that unit unroll i drew the tag. Still saw lots of elk though

Hello Seatown 5 , first off thanks for posting the picture of the elk i took, and the little write up you did. Since i did not get a chance to talk to you, thought i would post a little bit on how the hunt went down. I hunted that area on wednesday, thursday, and then friday when i took the bull. Wednesday i saw a raghorn bull and did not shoot, he was below the stump that you sat at on friday. Then thursday morning got to the canyon just at daylight an sat on that stump, i sat there for about an hour. I got up and headed up the trail to the head of the canyon, went about 50 yards and looked across the canyon and here was the bull standing broadside in the only opening there was over there, so i ran back to the stump,  ranged him at 500 yards directly across the canyon, sat down rifle on stump to shoot , i knew he was huge and he went into the thick timber and i lost site of him. I was contemplating on what to do next and I decided to not go across the canyon and spook him out, since nobody hunts that area, I decided to head up the canyon and hunt and come back in the late afternoon to see if i could spot him again. Low and behold at 6oclock, i was sitting at the same stump and two cows came thru the opening and 5 minutes later here came the bull, so i rested the gun on the stump, took a deep breath and i shoot and he walks into the timber, i barely see him again but no shot was available. Once again i was deciding on what to do,so i headed down to see if i could get closser to the the elk,but the lower i went the thicker the timber got and i could not see. By that time it was getting dark and i decided to leave and come back tomorow. The next day in the morning is when i met you at the trailhead and  went in, after you. You did sit at the stump and you got up and left. I got to the stump and sat there for 5 minutes, spotted the bull  across the canyon towards the bottom, at 475 yards, knew it was the same bull  and i shot and connected and he went right down. You know the rest of the story. By the way did you get drawn for anything this year , i did not, but my buddy got drawn for peaches ridge archrey and i will be helping him. God luck to you, and wish you could have stayed for the last week of the hunt

Pretty sure it was the same bull i told seatown about. I bugled into 80 yards for my bro in law during the archery season but the wind changed and that was the end. My brother shot a bull in pretty much the same area a couple years ago, was a 8x9 that was pushing 360" there is some big bulls in that unit

yep ,seatown remember your deal last year that's just to much,i have to admit im not even close to being over my stuff in the woods last year earher but im going were the elk accually talk during bow season, allready have sightings and some pics from a nearby farmer, but that's a different thread I geuss,as far as rimrock goes,id check when the jeep club is going home and oh ya !!check the schedule on that Christion rock band with all the amps and generators,i think if you show them your tag they will let you in,but don't go early they don't start playing till 11;30 pm,been hunting that place for years and years its so recreational now I don't see the hunting feeling up there anymore,as far as the bull tags go that is the most interesting tag ive had in years !!15 yards and no shot on a 4x3 but wow !any way great draw ,kouchman mountain is were I ran into elk 3 times there is good trails through there for us old folk and it makes for quiet travel on foot at least until the dude with the corduroy camoes comes sprinting past sounding like a chain saw,i ran face to face into bow hunters 4 times in one day so hunt early and late anyway good luck great draw
loction location location ! perzackly !
