Drew Rimrock Bull...Need advice
« on: June 15, 2014, 10:20:49 PM »
So after 12 years I drew another bull tag. Not my first choice as Im a Peaches Ridge junky, but Rimrock is a nice area. So heres the issue, Ive spent some time there but not much.

Im not looking for honey holes, I just need some advice. How do I not think about this hunt everyday until Oct. How can I stop myself from reading maps daily looking for that one elky spot. How do I stop myself from testing my 20plus years of elk hunting knowledge. How do I not drive over there every weekend and burn through two pairs of boots before the season starts. (I still have crab, salmon and tuna to kill.) How do I not try and do this on my own, the hard way, with preperation, scouting and hard work....

Im so lost, Please Help. :chuckle:

I dont like hunting that area because it is so thick. If I did id start hunting up the south fork of the tieton up around conrad meadows. But like i say its really thick. Theres plenty of elk around in there though.

Good Draw! Taken a few cows out of there on the pinegrass flats but like 270shooter says "it is thick". Never seen a bull in there but I have seen some up near the Conrad meadows. There are some good posts on here with some great picts...do a little searching.

Great draw1 Took a 364 2/8 typical out last year and my buddy took a cow elk. Good luck to you. What was ironic, was the game management unit area is 364 as well

Wolves ate all the elk. Rimrock tag holders should go home  :chuckle:. Between the jo public getting upset at the injuns killing some of the wildhorses so they could go back on the res instead of live I. The rimrock unit, the elk have made up their minds and already left for peaches ridge :chuckle:.

 :chuckle: :chuckle:

Maybe I can find a nice white horse to shoot then.

Hi guys, I drew the same tag. As I have posted in a couple other places on here, I just had my second knee replacement, so I won't be as mobile as I wish I was. But I am still going to give er hell. I've mushroom hunted up there, so I know a little bit about the area. Please feel free to give me a little insight or ideas about the area.  Thanks, Bruce

Tying on to a tree would be ok too!! ;)  :chuckle:

:chuckle: You guys are great. I started this as more or less a light hearted thread because it seemed like every permit holder was asking for some sort of guidance.Regardless of the intent You guys are always willing to help a guy out. Thnx for any advice so far. I plan on scouting a ton and when the season rolls around I will be the deepest darkest holes the unit has. If you having any good spots that have reasonable access give them to newknee's....I have good knee's and will be putting them to use ;)

Go up the south fork and find some of the steep nasty stuff.  That's where the big bulls are.  Or hike in the crest trail and find the steep nasty stuff over there.
