Cool pics on my camera...
« on: August 17, 2014, 09:06:12 PM »
So I put up my camera back in July and got 350+ photos of 3 different bulls. The one that I'm posting here is a decent bull, weak on the top end, but not bad for where he's at. Look at the tear duct in the bugling picture, I have never seen that in any photo of an elk before. Has anyone ever seen this?

If you look at both sides almost looks like a bullet hole. One side healed over (entry)
The other did not. (exit) :dunno: :dunno: :dunno: :o

I think all bulls have that. Not sure if they are glands or what but have seen them many times.

All deer and elk have these. I know they are tear ducts/glands. I just haven't seen one open up like this before.

Perhaps just a genetic defect or the result of an infection or impaction of some sort.

That's really weird since bulls don't bugle in July...looks like he just had a piece of food stuck in his throat and needs a 180 gr heimlich maneuver  :chuckle:

Tear duct gland like said, Even deer have these and when the deer are at the feeder at our cabin it's pretty close to the cabin window, when a deer (even a doe) is eating and another smaller deer walks up sometimes the bigger will run it off and when they do that gland will open up and easy to see, I have wondered if it lets a scent out as a dominance type warning ?

Tell that to all the elk that many hunters have heard bugling, in July, as well as just about every other month of the year.
