I was packed to head to Winthrop but.....
« on: August 31, 2014, 04:29:17 PM »
I backed out at the last minute  :o :dunno: I really have no idea what is getting into me lately ..I can not get excited about anything anymore . I have Blacktail on the brain and then I get thinking about Mule deer and then I want to go bear hunting  :chuckle: I am driving my wife nuts right now ..I will probably regret not going because there has been some nice bucks seen running around over there ..but the rain we just got makes me want to hunt some high mountain blacktail ...I have 7 days to hopefully get something ..think I hunt deer until Wednesday and get after a bear ...good luck to all and be safe out there

I saw this big 3x3 tall boy outside of town right on the road. He pulled to the side of the road to let me by I pulled up next to him and we had a stare down.  He was looking right at me through the passenger window

:chuckle: :chuckle: You think ? I could have been done at 6am but just could not do it ! I am glad I decided to stay west because where I went was just torn up .only problem was the wind was blowing down hill where all the deer were . But I could not help myself but to take a peak  :chuckle: As I ease over to the ridge where I could just see over the edge there he was ..Nice little basket rack 3 pt ...not a bad sized deer at all but with all the sign that was in there I chose not to let one fly . I have to see who all is living there . I put 2 trailcams up there so hopefully I will know soon ..No bait ..just on the well beaten trails ..That's why I really do not care about early season ..looking at that rutting buck just sends shock waves up my spine . I would rather wait until they thicken up and polish up the bone but if I see a nice one I will try to take him

I seen a masher 2 pt yesterday with dark choc antlers already..watched him for almost 2 he's feeding in a cut...I was quite surprised to see them so dark.....I've been contemplating going east for a few years now to try and harvest my first mulie  but I just can't go a season without hunting blacktail either....I love they challenge of these big mature bucks....I passed on 18 bucks and missed one last year and in still hearing it from my dad  :chuckle:  one of these days I'll get one like that buck...I've seen a few even bigger than that one...one would have been a easy shot if I would have got the multi season tag like I was going to....seen him late season archery elk  :bash:

I have been on the deer . Seen about 15 so far and the only buck was that little 3 pt. But at least I have been hunting hard ..Tomorrow I will switch back to bear mode ...last night I was out in the rain and saw 7 ...all in the road ...this morning I thought I would see a lot more than I did but I did see 3 ..all doe . I also had 9 pictures on my trailcams ..all doe and all in the dark ..The funny thing is everytime I set my trailcam out for the very 1st set it seems the deer and elk walk right up to the camera and I get 2 eyes and a nose  :dunno: :chuckle:

It's a rare condition called Odocoileus hemionus Columbianus interuptus. BH, go kill something, man. That's the only cure.
