Whitetail/Mule deer Cross?
« on: August 18, 2014, 05:44:56 PM »
Is this a whitetail/mule deer cross or just a deformed deer?  This area has mostly mule deer but some whitetail.
"Shoot the spike".  It's much easier to pack out!

Never know for sure but he looks mostly mule to me. We have some crazy crosses over this way. A couple years we took several bench leg/whitetail crosses.

That's kind of what I was thinking but I have been seeing more whitetails in the area.  His definitely messed up genetically he has a short all white tail (no black like a muley) and a floppy left ear. He is hanging out with a two point mule deer and he is not quite as big.

I have a set of horns mounted in my house from one of the crosses. It's funny to hear the people ask where I got the whitetail :chuckle:

the tail may have been there and been frostbitten and fell off.
we have a whitey doe around the neighborhood with small 2-3 inch round ears (like a bear) and no tail. I assume she lost them to frostbite.
I killed a wt buck a few years go with no tail also
