Scouting Little Nachees
« on: September 01, 2014, 12:38:17 PM »
Since the spike regulation, it has been since 1999 that I hunted this area.  This year I drew an Antlerless permit.  I think after seven years?  Well, no matter, so I looked around my old haunts and was overwhelmed how much dog hair fir exists today.  Many of the side roads are like driving through a brushy carwash.  In my walking around I saw two elk, a cow and a young bull, and spooked a herd in the regrowth.  Lots of elk sign, though.  Looks like the hunting will be in the regrowth. The sections of land owned by the timber companies where the most barren of trees, but I didn't drive around much.
The elk will be where I find them, but I would rather not be on top of them when I do find them.
How all of the permit holders get their freezers full with cow elk.

I meant the sections that are privately owned.  I only assumed some timber company owned them.  Usually they cut the whole section, rarely does the forest service.
