Poor little guy is out looking for a teat to suckle on!

Seems on odd place for bear this time of year.  What are they feeding on in there Smoochy?
He asked, Do you ever give a short simple answer?  I replied, "Nope."

Looks like the bear is snacking on salmon berries.
May I always be the kind of person my dog thinks I am.

That's what I thought too, but I have seen none out still and didn't see any actual berries in that photo.

...later edit...OK, I see them once I zoom in.  Man! my eyes are going faster than I thought :chuckle:  Better get a new pair of glasses

90% of what is in that area is salmon barries like a previous poster said. There are some red hucks and other berries juat across the road from there though. Whats surprising is he was out there about 130pm.
Gonna try to get him this year. We just happened to see a nice 5x elk bull up there standing in thw middle od the road.

Back in '85 (maybe '86) a friend of mine and I were set up in tree stands overlooking a nice little patch of salmon berries similar to that.  We knew of a large grey bear and a large black one with a white spot on it's chest that were feeding in there.  We both worked the charter boats so we missed the morning hunt on opening day.  That evening he shot the black bear and I shot a spike elk while each of us watched the other.  That was pretty cool!

First light and between 1 & 3:PM are my sweet spots on bear kills!  Good luck on getting that guy...or his pappa

Good job Smossy ...He is a little small but that's not saying if you want to shoot then go ahead and shoot him ...I have killed a couple by accident when I was 1st getting into bear hunting ..Once I learned to size them up that all changed ...when most people see a bear it is instantly a big one ..in most cases it is not .. that's cool you got some pictures of one

I know a good number of Canadians that won't shoot a big bear.  They say they prefer eating the smaller ones!  Not sure I have noticed a big difference in taste, but I have seen very few small ones with worms.  So that's always a plus.

Trophy is in the eyes of the beholder.  Still one of my most memorable bear was my first with a bow.  I don't think he broke 100#.  Still got my legs to turn into jello on a paint shaker...that was fantastic!
