Longview hunter mauled by black bear
« on: September 06, 2014, 07:37:25 PM »
This just hit the wire on the wider internet. Go to http://tdn.com/news/national/bear-chases-bow-hunter-up-tree-bites-his-leg/image_21bd24b7-c537-5572-b485-539ffcda03d1.html. He's ok but he was lucky and will now carry his handgun.

Not much of a read. Glad the guy is ok. Doesn't happen that often but it's best to carry and be prepared. Seems unusual for a black bear to me. I know it happens from time to time. I would have a few questions for the guy.  Something doesn't seem to ad up. He didn't know there was a bear around? Seems strange for a bow hunter. For any hunter for that matter. I would expect a bow hunters senses to be more finely tuned to their surroundings though.

It's very possible the bear had found the deer and claimed it and if the bear had cubs I can easily see even greater potential for this to happen. Glad the guy is OK!
