Bull down!! UPDATED WITH PICS AND STORY
« on: September 14, 2014, 09:45:38 AM »
Shot in the neck at 9 yards! Still a little adrenaline going here. My first archery elk! Got work to do story and pics coming soon.

Ok, so I will preface this story with a question. You ever have something happen so fast you don't know what occurred? Well that's what happened today with this bull. I was sitting in my blind thinking about the hawks game, sending my wife a text about the lunch we were going to have when all of a sudden, I see a cow's head, she's coming up the trail my blind is sitting just off of. She's not alone, 2 cows, 3,4, 6 then I see antlers. 1,2,3 ok he's legal. I drop my phone  :bash: , it spooks the lead cow and she runs up the trail a bit, the others follow, with the bull on their tale. He stopped next to my blind at 9 yards just behind a bitterbrush, I was drawn hoping he would stop for a shot. The only one I had was the neck, I released, WHACK!!!! Down he goes, no movement. Still shaking from adrenaline, I could see him from my blind and he was not breathing. I knocked an arrow, stepped out, and confirmed what I thought, yes sir! I just killed my first bull elk with a bow!!! And it all happened so fast I have a hard time remembering all details still. Funny how that is. Well here he is. Not a monster, but none the less, in the cooler.

It was a lot of work, but I have it in the cooler. I forgot how much work they are. Incredible day in the woods.

Congrats on your achievement! Doesn't get much better than a first archery elk! Fine table fare.

Awesome... love it...

Thanks guys.  I was wondering about the velvet on the antlers. Will it fall off after a period of time? Or will it stay. Would like to do a plaque mount and wanted to know what to expect.
