need shocks for my 06 duramax, no clue??
« on: September 21, 2014, 09:35:02 AM »
I wanted to ask the masses about what kind of shocks I need to look for to put on my 06 gmc duramax, 2500 hd.  It has a 6'' lift on it, currently I have bilstiens on it but they are shot.  I don't know what model they are, you cant read them.  I don't know the in's and out's of shocks so I was just hoping for good info.  Thanks guys!

Get some good KYB's and you'll be good to go.

Any certain model that handles the weight and height of the lift? Thanks Josh

Looks like TireRack has them for 58.00 a piece.  But they have two different models, none of them say which is better with the lift?  Seems like a decent price but I just want to make sure I don't put the wrong one because of the lift.

I put the 4Wheel Parts shocks on my HD a year ago. They are a good shock and would recommend them.

5100 series Bilsteins

http://www.bilsteinus.com/products/truck-off-road/5100-series-lifted-light-trucksuv/
I saw those and could only find the ones that fit the 2011-2012 with a 6'' lift.  coundn't find the rears at all for a 6'' lift, can't confirm if having the lift matters on what shock?

I would definitely stick with Bilsteins.
Rancho's are great and a good price but they just don't compare to the Bilstein 5100's.

No, just leveled, but they will have what you need. I was going to do Bilsteins also and they talked me into buying their brand. They had some try it out and bring it back if you don't like them. Compared to Bilsteins they might be a little stronger built, but I'm no shock expert. The ride is good, with or without a load in back.

You might have your front springs checked for being tired or sag? When the front springs get weak it puts to much load on the schocks and they fail prematurely. Schocks are not there to carry the load but to smooth ride with the bumpty bumpty....
