Ducks, cold, and snow
« on: December 12, 2008, 12:27:31 PM »
as an amateur waterfoweler, will the cold and snow this weekend mean better duck hunting or worse duck hunting or does it not make much difference? By better I mean more ducks.

If it is snowning where you live, it may make the birds move around more. It will also push birds down from the north

Maybe the best time to hunt hands down is the couple hours after a snow event.......snow is usually good for hunting birds.....a little before...sometimes during and definately after....Good luck....

With this deep freeze I would hunt big water. The ducks are looking for a place to rest. I have always had banner days down on the Nisqually delta when everything else is frozen up. Launching a boat is another story. WOW....talk about ice. Be very careful  :twocents:

On the eastside the weather is so cold it could push birds out.  Still water is freezing fast so the only options will be the bigger rivers.  Hunting the PO river on Fri and crushed, went back on Sat and the sloughs were frozen and many of the puddle ducks had blazed.... still divers and geese around though.
