Late archery, if you are willing to drive to Republic you can start Nov 10th, whitetails in the rut.

Kracker, do you have a multi season deer tag or just haven't declared method yet?  If multi in possession, you can hunt Tiger Mt during the blacktail rut also.

Late Archery because its fun
Late Archery because its a great time of year to be hunting
Late Archery because depending on what deer you are after you have lots of choices
Late Archery because if you are a meat hunter you have lots of options
Late Archery because alot of units are open for the whole month of Dec and some from Nov into Dec
Late Archery because if you are hunting blacktails the leaves are down and visibility is good
Late Archery because you can hunt Muley bucks in some decent units
Late Archery because you can hunt Whitetails in the rut
Late Archery because it is not very crowded (except the late Muley hunts)
Late Archery because the woods wont be full of people dressed like pumpkins
Late Archery because its fun.
If you have never hunted in the late season east when its nice and cold, and the days are short and you see no one else, its is a different experience than the run and gun season...
*
Edit: i just noticed this is in the Elk hunting section... :bash:

Still Late Archery because its not rifle season... :chuckle:

To hunt and butcher an animal is to recognize that meat is not some abstract form of protein that springs into existence tightly wrapped in cellophane and styrofoam.

TOTTALLY !AGREE I FEEL MUCH BETTER NOW,the only problem ive ever had with late archery is being able to move around once im out of the vehicle, sure would be nice to have a light winter, but I will find a way even if I have to hunt from the cabin window,at least that way I can keep the fire going. :chuckle:happy lost calf calls to all and happy hunting

Season timing....late archery or muzzy because the elk migration.  Method...modern rifle.  Sorry I'm not much more help than that KC.  You can use your archery gear for a muzzy tag.

If you do modern I would bet money you'd start a thread moaning and groaning about the idiots. There are a lot of people during modern elk, it gets very crowded, dangerous in some areas IMO. Late archery can be a lot of fun if you don't mind the cold and wet.

My vote is late archery.

I quit modern (elk) and went to archery because of the (insert adjective of choice) ((((none of them members of this site))))) where I was hunting.  Love late archery.  Last year was 7 degrees when I climbed into my tree stand.  No mosquitos.  Woods are quiet.  Few hunters around to molest my hunt.  Don't need a cooler for the beer.   :chuckle:  Easy to track elk in the fresh snow.  Love sitting around a camp fire when it's cold out. Etc., etc., etc.  Can't compare it to muzzy since I've never done that.  Don't want to try.  Am afraid I'd like it too much and I already spent enough $$ on archery.   :chuckle:

I guess it all depends on if you have a honey hole to hunt archery and have scouted, I would do archery. If not matter what its going to be a new experience kind of hunt. Then you need to decide if you are happy with any elk, or if you want a bull. Two things to consider, 1. Archery, less hunters and lots of cows out there. 2. if you hunt modern, find escape routes and sit and wait, let the other hunters do the work. Many modern hunters spend way to much time road hunting and just pushing animals, take advantage of that.

Late archery is tough but fun. The only drawback is the amount of open units shrinks up to only a few.

I hunted a Modern season with a buddy of mine about 5 years ago so I won't be doing that again...
Thank God for Hunting...gives me something to think about at work.

Late archery.
Pros: either cow or spike
Cons: less units, to much snow push cows to private, more difficult to get into elk areas, camping can be harder due to elements.
