Where are the Toms ?
« on: October 07, 2014, 09:46:45 AM »
This was my second time hunting the fall tag for turkeys.  I drew the tag that includes the Klickitat area.   Both times I was able to find a flock and sneak in and shoot one but both years The flocks I have found did not seem to have any Big males?   Seems like mostly females.

Do the Toms form their own little groups or hang out solo?  Or just bad luck in the groups I spot.  Either way it was fun to get out and find something to chase.  But I really would like to get a nice fat male next time.

Yeah toms form their own groups.. they don't like to hang out with the hens and poults during the fall. I also have a hard time finding groups of toms in fall. It seems like the groups of hens and poults stay down in fields and easily accessible areas. I normally find groups of toms in the mountains. You just have to weave through all the hens and poults because there are so many of them running around this time of the year.

Thanks,
Nice to have someone else seeing the same thing as I have.  Next time I have the tag I'll have to spend a little more time looking in the higher thick stuff

It is tough. You really need to scout allot and put a lot of miles on to find them sometimes. They more than likely will be in groups though.
