Keeping Cage\Lure Dry
« on: October 10, 2014, 06:44:12 PM »
Just a quick hello and thanks for all the info I have been able to get from this forum.  I got my trappers license late last year and this will be my first year running traps.  I was wondering what people do to rainproof their cages or at a minimum keep their lures from being washed away?  Or is this even something I should worry about?

I  don't think keeping the lure dry is important. That being said, a lot of trappers cover their traps with a piece of heavy plastic and then put boughs or brush over it. The reason is more to protect the trap from snow and freezing up.
I trap over here in the rain and never cover with anything but boughs and the rain doesn't bother.
If I had a lot of cold weather I would probably be using some plastic for covering.

That makes sense.  I'll have to deal with freezing temps and snow at some point so it'll be good to be prepared, but the thought of wrapping my cage with plastic seemed a bit over the top.

You don't have to wrap the whole thing. Just over the top and maybe down the sides a little.

Plastic also help direct the scent out the front, Not the sides...
