where are the Blacktail
« on: October 19, 2014, 10:24:57 AM »

This is my 4th year hunting. And I usually go alone. But I cannot seem to ever find a deer. I live in Auburn and  I hunt gmu 653. Up past greenwater and out past Buckley. I dont think there are any deer in this state.

Blacktails could probably be considered endangered in that area, no joke

You re not alone.  I NEVER have any problem finding deer but I will be damned if I can find one in Ryderwood or Willapa Hills.  Hell, even our local deer have vanished.  We had a ton of them at our apple trees every day and now the apples are rotting on the ground or are being fed to the horses.  :dunno:

I like heading to the east side and getting out of the west side jungles. too easy for the blacktail to disappear.

Just got done talking with a couple of logger friends who work in Vail and they are seeing the same thing.  One saw a single buck yesterday right at daylight but couldn't get a shot.  That was the only deer he has seen in a week.    :dunno:

Sounds like u guys need to move or find somewhere else to hunt .. I never hunted that area but is there a lot more elk or just more predators ? I have heard of 3 cougar seen in my area in the last 7 days ...No one got a shot at them ...I think our cougar population is on a serious rise  :dunno: :twocents:

Predators are definitely on the rise.  A lot more cougar and bear sightings in the past couple of years.  What seems to be a reoccurring theme this year is the lack of deer and elk on Weyco permit lands.  Early archery there were a ton of deer in Vail and Pe Ell South an North but they are all in hiding.

Look into Whidby Island.  There are a ton of deer roaming around.
