I carry the etrex 30 as well... I upgraded the maps, and have the land owner chip for it... It works great for me!

Got mine last year. As said above not all the bells and whistles. But enough to get your butt out of the fire if need be  :twocents:  ;)

I have a Garmin Etrex 30. Works fine if you want one without all the fancy stuff.


I notice nobody has a PLB, a personal locater beacon. In my mind, the very best way to get rescued from a bad situation. $250

I don't need one. If I wrap myself in a survival blanket, you can see me on sat photos!

So my smartphone GPS is supposed to work even if I don't have service?
Only if you cache the maps on your phone.
