Here's their latest attempt to bolster I-594 using fear and misinformation.
http://www.thenewstribune.com/2014/10/22/3446786/americas-mass-shootings-epidemic.html?sp=/99/447/Here's my comment to them:
"It's interesting to note that according to the US Department Of Justice, gun violence has dropped by nearly 50% in the last 20 years. Then you might ask, "why is the media telling us that we have an epidemic on our hands?" Because the media, most especially TNT, has an agenda instead of simply reporting the news like a free press is supposed to do. Their agenda is supporting bigger government and fewer freedoms for the individual American. Another point: almost all of the "mass shootings" which have occurred over the last 20 years have one thing in common: they took place in "Gun-Free Zones". Legislators who really honestly wanted to make our children safer by creating these zones have actually done just the opposite and the crazies have figured it out. They can kill almost as many people as they want in one of these Gun-Free Zones because they know that none of the good guys will be armed. Good guys obey the law and bad guys don't. All public schools, movie theaters, and now quite a few businesses in Seattle are potential killing fields because the media has convinced the people that they'll be safer if they're disarmed. The author of this hack piece says it's only a matter of "when" the next mass killing will happen. He's right, and he's right because he and others like him refuse to admit that none of these killers will stop because of changes in law. They won't stop because they're nuts! They're crazy people who will do anything they can to play out their fantasies. You can pass all the feel good laws you want. Crazy people will still be crazy.
The timing of this hack piece of misinformation is not arbitrary. It's meant to boost TNT's company-wide campaign to support the passage of I-594. It's written to scare you. It's written to make you mad. And, it's written to make you think things are worse than the actual evidence from our DOJ says they are. Don't believe them. Do like 26 (so far) of our 39 sheriffs have done and oppose I-594. That's correct; 2/3 of our county sheriffs in WA know that I-594 won't make us safer; it'll make us less safe. Don't let hacks and snake oil salesmen convince you otherwise. Push legislators for stiffer penalties on gun-related crimes. Push them for better mental health treatment and reporting. Push for accountability from our prosecutors and judges to pursue and hand down maximum sentences for gun-related crime. And push for good citizens to keep rights which they've done nothing to deserve losing. Vote No on I-594. And tell TNT to start being a free press again, not a pawn of the nation's billionaires."
