Eastern Washington Bear....High or Low?????
« on: October 23, 2014, 06:30:00 PM »
This time of the year are you more likely to find bears High or Low on the Eastern side of the state?  I have a few days to get out and am trying to complete the trifecta (deer, elk bear in one year).  I have the first two checked off and only need the bear.  It is getting down to crunch time and bear have always been my arch nemesis.  I have only killed one in all my years of hunting.

Any thoughts would be great.

Freshest sign I've seen has been low in the valleys. Deep and dark. Most of it near ponds or creeks. I too just need my elk lol. Their my nemesis

I just checked 6 cams in the last two days and had at least a dozen bears on them, probably more if i actually went back and counted i bet.  all cameras between 3500 and 4500 feet.  Dates from late september to present.  Many in daylight.  I struggle to find them after august myself, but yhe cameras dont lie

Although the bear I shot was "small" this year, I only need the deer to complete the "Trifecta" this year.  Watch me not be able to kill any whitetail in late season   :chuckle:

4000-5000 ft still with no snow. I didn't have enough days to buy an elk tag. But I did get a bearded hen, and a 4 +4 whitetail. Missed a bear at 508 yards September 27th. Just bought a 4.5-14-40mm Buckmasters BDC scope, $375.00 from the General Store and I'm going back up tomorrow to redeem myself! GOOD LUCK GUYS- no tag sandwiches for us!!!!!!!!!!!

In response to this and the OPs question... some bears move down to 3,000-4,000 feet, yes.

At the same time, there are thousands and thousands of bears who would never consider going that high.  You might be surprised how many bears live down lower and are out and about through November.

Oh I have no doubt. That's just the elevation my families property is at so that's where I hunt. In that area that's just what I experience. I still get bears on cam where there are berries just for that area once they are done I get 3-4 times as many different ones on cam.
