I've shot a bunch of huns but don't know how to tell a male from a female. Can anyone show examples and explain the difference?

That is the best  guess after they are dead and while generally true it is not always the case. Having raised several hundred huns in my years of game farming the dark brown horseshoe shape on the breast can be on both males and females (if you put what ends up being two males in the same cage you find out real quick  ). I used the patch on the chest as well as the amount of orange skin just behind the eye. But honestly I usually only tried to sex them in the early spring. The male call helped as well. Cool little birds for sure.

Thanks. You're right, Cynergy 28ga. Now I just need to bag a chukar, that's Washington's only upland bird I haven't shot yet

Spruce grouse yes, mountain quail no... forgot about that one, I guess I have two more to get. Do we have bobwhites in WA? Because that would make three
