Deer scent question
« on: October 28, 2014, 02:18:50 PM »
For those of you with trail cameras, have you used strictly deer pee to see if it would bring in any bucks? If so, what was the outcome? Did the bucks tend to come in each day to get a sniff or was it a one and done visit? I am curious if I should hang some scent wicks a couple days before my next hunt to get the bucks coming in regularly or if I should just put them out the morning of? Particularly blacktail, but any info is helpful.

I agree don't leave the scent wicks out overnight. I had to. Monday night because I had a buck working the thick stuff in front of my stand so I had to sneak out the back side and get behind a ridge to get out unnoticed. In that case next time I hunt the stand I will switch that does piss rag out with a fresh rag and doe piss from another manufacturer just so it gives the area. Slightly different offering.

I was using  doe in heat urine Monday and after a few can calls I had a nice 3X3 with eyeguards come in and work the rub and scent. He was 20 yards away for close to 10 minutes and stood in he he only spot I didn't have a perfectly clear shot. A small cedar branch was blocking my view so I didn't want to risk the shot. That's OK though because I will be back at it tomorrow and there is a big 4 point with eyeguards in there that has been in from of my cam a number of times since the 23rd!

Tomorrow is the day!!!

I have never had much luck with doe in heat scents in the past. Mostly using code blue. What scents do you guys have the best luck with? Doe in heat? Or buck scent on a mock scrape?

Thanks

I have only used scent in combination with some other goodies in front of my cam, last year at this same spot I had 4 four points (with eye guards)4three points and lots of does,it was a hot spot compared to other locations I tried. I have not got a pic of one buck in the three weeks the cam was out there.?  Forgot the scent the last 2 times I went to check the cam  :bash:

For those still hunting, find a buddy that got one and cut off one, or both, of the rear leg glands.  Hang that baby in range and I would guess any local bucks will come check it out.  Several times I have had bucks either check out a dead buck still on the ground behind our house or a hanging buck in my carport.  Once while I was skinning one, a buck came within 40 feet with his nose in the air.

Thanks for the tips guys. I'm hoping to get it done and a buck on the ground before the season ends.
