St. Helens elk hunting
« on: November 02, 2014, 04:22:52 PM »
Went to help my brother in the Winston Unit.  We were hunting in the permit area and there were plenty of people in there.   I chatted with Del and his entire camp at the Toutle Mall (AKA  Shell Gas station).  Even though the number of permits were close to 4,000 there were plenty of people in there.

We witnessed some pretty amazing Loooooong distance shooting.   :dunno:

Did you witness the 22 shots around 9am opening morning by chance?

I witnessed 4 with the final 2 hitting the elk.

Every first two shots opening morning was a miss or two were a miss with other follow up shots as a hit.

Opening morning we heard of three bulls getting hit.

I saw two adults and a kid looking over a hill at something that died.  The two adults seem to want to separate them from what was going on down the hill.  I did not want to mess with that so we kept going.  If there is a bull down their typically everyone is down the hill.  And it was not steep and it was only 100 yards away.  I think something went wrong...   But that is their business not mine.

Yea, it was fun just to get out with my brothers and nephew.  But the shooting was long distances of 600+ yards.
