I have a few friends that drew.

One got a nice 5x5 opening morning, one hit a smaller bull Sunday close to last light. Third fella still hunting last I heard.

I know of one person who passed on a few 5X5 and smaller to get a bigger bull.

I have a buddy that drew the tag.  He took the week off and is camping up there in the Northern part of the unit.  He has been hunting hard everyday since Saturday and has not seen anything.  Any helpful pointers on where he should go or focus would be greatly appreciated.  He is glassing cuts and hiking timber but just not seeing jack.

Sad for a permit only unit! :bash:

The fog has been really bad and both in the morning and evening when hunting should be good its been foggy. The amount of hunters you see is something we have seen only a couple of cars a day instead of the usual 50 or so don't know if its the permits or economy.

I drew an archery tag this year and during archery season the vehicle traffic was slow.  Then we went back during rifle deer season and  :yike:  I don't think I have ever hunted an area that was so busy.  Wont be buying a Weyerhaeuser permit again unless it is for a special permit.

We had a good time, but WOW was it HOT.  I taged out on the first bull that gave me an opportunity (second day HEALTHY 4pt). I wasn't going to pass on any branched bull as I had never harvested an elk, or anything with my bow for that matter. Then we spent the rest of the season hunting for a trophy for my partner.  Lots of memories were made and the blood was really pumping many times, but in the end... tag soup for my partner.  It was fun, but I think we will start putting in for points and eventually put in for EA permits.  We both feel that waiting 10 years for a quality hunt should be better than what the Toutle had to offer.   :twocents:

18 pts finally drew the tag.. bought the Weyco permit for me and my hunting buddies..we were there 11 out of the 12 days I could hunt... saw a rag horn bull day 3 and that was it.  Not even a single cow.  Not a quality hunt at all!  I think I will be going east as well!
