Hunting Washington Ice fishing trip?

We will see how Spur's hunt goes as far as attendance, but thought it would be fun to organize a Ice fishing trip sometime. Lots of cold weather should make safe ice soon. Any thoughts on a fishing location?

I got some buddies that go every year up here. I want to say Hog Canyon and 4th of July, but I can double check with them. I've never gone my thoughts are " I only heard of one hombre that could walk on water and it ain't me"

Good point Grizzly95! I was raised in North west Pennsylvania. Being a sportsmen from that part of the world ice fishing is a part of life! The ice here is kinda unpredictable. In 20 years, I have not pinned down a stable icefishery! i have ice fished soda, sprague, and Moses lake the most. I would like to try fish lake near Leavenworth. I read about it on another post. I like to get crappies threw the ice, they are hard to find!

My father-in-law told me that years ago a cold spell came through and they went ice fishing on Priest Lake and it froze so suddenly you could see through the ice, said it was crystal clear straight into the abyss blackness. That makes my boys shrivel up!

fourth of july can be good for some decent sized rainbows...but not so much on the panfish side....they stocked Sprague lake with a bunch of trout and some triploids...but again no panfish....and its a bigger lake so it might take a little longer to freeze up....

I would say planning a group fishing trip is a no go. No interest! Saw a few fishermen out on Moses lake over the weekend.

About 10 years ago I was down at Hog Canyon with my son, we got our limit of trout and headed in, it was near the end of the day and there was only one other guy out there fishing. As we headed in, he packed up and headed in as well. I told my son, that is smart, never go ice fishing on your own. Next day we got hit with a good snow storm, I headed out to 4th of July by myself. Got to the lake and much to my suprise no one was in the parking lot. I decided to go check it out, the upper part of the lake was open water. I got down about 75 yards from the open water and decided to do a test drill and see how thick the ice was. I put my bucket down, put the ice auger down and gave her half a twist and went right on through, me, bucket and auger. I never touched the bottom, but since I was a few feet from the shore and still had the auger in my hand I was able to hook the auger on a rock and pull myself up, broke through again, but was much closer to the shore and managed to barely touch bottom. It was a long cold walk back to the truck, but I said many thank you's to the man upstairs. Sometimes we gotta listen to our own advice!!

C-Money, when we get our next cold snap I'm in. I actually went out the other day and pounded some perch.

That sounds cool duckRanger, I am sure Spur_Ride will want to go too. Sounds fun geting into some perch. Did you try a local spokane lake? I use to like to fish Fernan in Idaho, did good on perch and got a few bonus trout.

Id like to go ice fishing, never done it before. I think I have some ice fishing jigs though for some reason or another lol. I dont know much about how to guage the ice and what not. I think theres a buddy of mine that might be interested in going also. All I have is the want to go, I dont know anything about ice fishing, and dont have an auger or anything. Even hearing about it would be nice.

Been away from the computer for a week. I have been out on Silver Lake(Spokane County) a few times this last week or so. Ice was plenty thick. Will have to wait and see what this rain we are supposed to get does to the ice. But as soon as the ice is good to go we can plan something for everyone who would like to go try and whack some fish thru the ice.

I got a buddy chompin at the bit to go ice fishing, and another buddy that goes all the time. They were talking about hitting some lakes up north if the ice was good. Eloika or Waitts I think.
