The wife and I spent yesterday around Morton and Rifle lake checking out our late prospects for a Blacktail. We only saw one deer all day. That's not the part that worries me, its the lack of any buck rub! Usually we see a lot of alder and fir trees rubbed down around this time of year. On this trip we saw none.

I have killed a couple bucks in this area so I am not worried about the numbers, but where are they in the rut cycle? Are they still pre rut or have they found their does and are now just hanging out with them?
Are you elk hunters seeing any rubs or activity out there?
I will be out on Thursday behind some gates looking for a good buck, see you on the ridge!
