I see this is the second thread along these lines.

Please provide a few links showing FAVORABLE press, further "post rally" actions that have benefited 2A supporters, or, for that matter, any link that shows the results of open carry rallys in a positive light. Lets say for a time frame....the last 10 years.

I think this kind of thing, i.e. marching around carrying guns and scaring city folk is a very bad idea. I think it will have detrimental effects for our cause.  :bdid:

Yeah. Let's all carry a bunch of "open carry" guns to the state capital. That will really win over all the people who voted for 594. Just intimidate them into agreeing with us.  Better yet everybody bring a black gun for extra emphasis then the Seattle voters will for sure like our point of view and the press will film it and help our cause. It will make the politicians all want to identify with us too.

Or maybe not. Sheesh.  Leave the guns home and give the cause a chance for success. It's already an uphill battle.

:yeah:  I can not for the life of me figure out how a bunch of folks all of a sudden showing up openly carrying is going to settle the fears of the idiots that are afraid of guns to begin with.  I tend to think it will do just the opposite.  Besides I carry everyday already maybe not open but still carry and no one is the wiser unless they know me and will continue to do so regardless of what laws get passed.

What it will do is guarantee there will be more gun control in the future starting with open carry being outlawed next.  I think this guy is pro 594 and wants to make sure it stays in effect.

Yeah, look what it did with Starbucks, they supported concealed carry in their shops and then everybody showed up with open carried firearms and long guns and the Starbucks said please don't come around anymore.  We are our worst enemy!

I am a open carrier and I am a member for several years of open carry.org. I have been two a couple open carry events that I thought went well.

But I would not open carry to this event.

Remember you can open carry in this state because there is no law against it However there could be in the future. It is not a guaranteed right to open carry in the constitution.

You are 100% correct. It's all about common sense and good judgement. Everything has it's time and place.

RG.....I agree 100%. I think this applies to open carry, displaying an animal on the way home from the field, etc. If we conduct ourselves in a manner that most find offensive then we will be our biggest enemy. Every chest thumping statement I hear makes me cringe. The by golly I'll do what I darn well please because its my right are just as big of a threat as the bunny hugger that disagrees.

Geeze-Is it somehow lost that 60% of the voters voted for 594?  It didn't just get approved, it got approved by an absoulute landslide, and 591 got defeated by a landslide!! So, lets go down to Olympia armed to the hilt and dare that 60% of the voters to try something else.  That's like getting the heck knocked out of you by a much bigger guy in a fight and jumping up and asking him to beat you up again.  It's time to take a step back, lick our wounds, and realistically prepare for the next onslaught.  Giving a much bigger, stronger opponent more ammo to fight with is crazy, and that's exactly what this gathering would do.  The only thing a march like this will do is scare voters, yep, scare them into voting for the next gun limitation bill that comes along.

The OP even has a quote from Johnny Cash saying "don't take your guns to town", I agree with everyone else and the quote. Don't take your guns to town cuz it will only cause more panic and fear, claim's of intimidation, etc etc... it is wiser in my opinion to spend the time educating people about how senseless this initiative is and how it isn't going to change anything related to crime. A guy isn't going to have any more trouble getting a firearm after this year. And if your going to COMMIT A CRIME with a gun, will it really change your plans if the gun your using isn't registered to you? Or obtained legally? I wonder if the supporter's of this law knew Marijuana was illegal for years and years yet VERY easily obtained within a 20 min drive of almost ANYWHERE as long as you know the right people. This makes me so sick that so many people in this state show such a low level of intelligence and logical thinking...

This is a good point.

Further restrictions under this may be at stake.

Here is another way to bring attention to the idiocy of 594  Wait until you know one of the idiots that did not research the total affects of 594 and voted for it then wants to go to the range or maybe hunting and wants to borrow or shoot your weapon offer to take them let them as soon as they have passed their background check....explaining they need their background check to fire or even handle someone else's guns.

You assuming that even with an 70 percent turnout to vote the outcome wouldnt be the same?

Actually turnout was approximately 50% and King county was only 50%.  Easy to estimate based on usual voting trends that had there been a 70% turnout 594 would have passed by closer to 500,000 votes.  This had nothing to do with lazy voters, like it or not, it's very obvious what the voters of the state wanted and it's very doubtful, based on the vote, that the legislature will touch this.  Reality is we are a minority in this state and have done very little to generate any sympathy from the non gun owners.  The task ahead is how to convince those who don't have strong sentiments about guns, that these types of laws only impact legitimate, law abiding gun owners and do very little, if anything, to impact the criminal use of firearms. Again, a big open showing of a bunch of gun toting yahoos saying openly that they won't obey the new law will only make this task much harder.

Very bad idea. Definitely sends the wrong message in my opinion.
Tak that same amount of time and write your representatives - over and over again.
