New Shotgun Time
«
on:
November 21, 2014, 08:06:28 PM »
Well after 2 years of putting three or four new trigger assemblies, two feed latches, plug springs and a countless number of jams later in my 11-87.... Im heading out tomorrow to buy a new shotgun. Not sure if im gonna go semi, or pump or what im gonna spend, but i know it cant be any worse then this hunk of crap. Been reading countless reviews on every gun out there, so i am gonna hold em all, and pick the one that feels right. Any suggestions on what not to get would be appreciated.

Not sure what your budget is. Get what feels best. I like benelli.

For hunting I would go with a Winchester SX3 or a Stoger M3500, I love my Beretta's but I'd get one of the two I mentioned. God forbid I say this but satay away from Bennelli's they kick like mules over the Winchester/Stoger/Beretta's

Id like to stay under 1500 bucks. And all I do is hunt quackers and honkers. No trap or upland for the most part.

I have been hearing good things about the stoeggers, make sure to post pics of what you pick up and a review after you take it out shooting. I'm wanting a new semi auto but I will be saving for a while.

I thought this was interesting (but dated) --

and this--

If I was looking at a new auto, I'd be looking close at the SX3.

The one thing that I have not liked about some of the newer autoloaders is the rubber grip that is on the stocks, I could see it getting worn out and not being able to replace it.
I also would want a shotgun that could handle everything from 2 3/4 to 3 1/2 inch loads. I like using the same shotgun for multiple types of hunting and being able to take it to the range for practice.
just my thoughts from researching for a while.

If I was buying a new shotgun, especially one used mainly for waterfowl, I would stay away from the pumps. I have not been thrilled with the long cycle it takes to open a 3 1/2" action. Though this may be my issue and not yours.

I really like my benelli sbe ii. It's quite a bit lighter than the gas operated semi autos and swings better imo. I did notice a difference in kick when patterning 3.5" shells compared to my browning silver.
