I wonder how many of us shot at our first deer with the same amount of skill level  :dunno:

 :stirthepot:

If I had displayed that level of skill on my first deer my Dad would have slapped the **** out me and I wouldn’t have been allowed to hunt again until I had re-proved my competence with my weapon and my judgment.
:yeah:Exactly what I was thinking

Phool,
I hunted Buckrun with my nephew who is in a wheel chair. Our family all chipped in and bought raffle tickets and he was lucky enough to draw a tag. Here is how it works. Raffle winners get ONE day to hunt. If you don't shoot a buck you are done. Landowner/Manager Derek Stevens assigns you to an area to hunt. He is NOT with you during your hunt. During our hunt the area we were assigned did not have many deer, we spotted a big buck on Dereks land but not in our designated area. I called Derek and he eventually allowed us to move to the area with the big buck. At the time I got the feeling that the only reason we were allowed to move was that we had a kid in a chair.
Derek is not in this video. Derek also gets a few landowner tags that he sells for around $6,000 each. He guides these hunters and they get to hunt until they fill their tag which usually only takes a day or two. He also sells some management hunts for around $ 1,500. These hunts are for old bucks with bad genetics, big two and three points. He also guides these hunters and they are one day hunts.

In my opinion this video should have no connection or reflection on the Stevens Family and Buckrun. Just hunters that made some bad choices, shooting outside their effective range, no orange, videoing and posting on Utube etc

GH, I was not suggesting Buck Run or Mr Stevens were involved/to blame, only wondering why someone would even require a "guide" if assigned one small section to stay in? Did this guy really need a "guide" to point out which stack of hay to sit in?

The things that come to those who wait, may be the things left by those who got there first!

Unethical, bad shooting. The whole spray and pray until you hit it is one of the worst examples of "hunting." Also not wearing orange as required only after the fact and then to have the audacity to post the video? These guys are not hunters they are *censored*es.

I've been watching, following, and trying to figure out a way to get my point accross about these "hunters".

To me, they really show a blanket disregard for the ethics and laws that pertain to hunting. The amount of rounds fired and apparent lack of concern, the attempt to put the orange on after the fact to "make it legal", and overall attitude make me wonder hmmm....what other laws do they break?

Clearly I wasn't there and can only assume but these guys really sum up ( to me ) those that glorify the killing, probably don't eat the meat, and put most hunters in a bad light.

Was it a guide or just a buddy of the guy?
Maybe I missed that part.

Did I hear the "guide" right when he said "I think u just hit him in the pecker"? Any which ways what a disgraceful act of hunting and those d-bags should be held accountable. To Jackofalltrades, I also shot my first mule deer
at 40ft with my 30-30 at the age of 12.  My dad would make me target practice with the 30-30 open sights at 100 yds with a pop can laying down facing me.  That took practice but it paid off...

hmmm  :dunno: I shot my late buck this year at 481 yrds and only used one shell  ... what did I do wrong?  :chuckle:

I wonder how many of us shot at our first deer with the same amount of skill level  :dunno:

 :stirthepot:

Its not his first deer I did a search of FB too and the account he posted the video under looks to be his wife's as well as the FB account, there are many previous years of hunting pics.

Sadly there was a guy in my elk camp who had this exact mentality.  I will not be returning to that elk camp next year.  I was actually glad that we didn't get any shots out this year.

Must have been an ex girlfriend or wife who posted that on YouTube! Certainly the hunter wouldn't want that on the Internet for everyone to see. I noticed he wasn't very experienced shooting that rifle, every time he chambered another round he had to take it down off the hay bale it was rested on, to work the bolt. Why not just leave the rifle where it was and continue looking through the scope until you're done shooting?

Nope the dates on you tube they were put up over 1 yr ago so that would be right after the hunt ... After reading the comments on you tube I don't see why they left it up  :dunno:  there isn't one positive remark yet they have let it run and those comments are old too in fact one of the very first comments asks him to please take it down!!!  :bash: I can see someone getting excited but then when you get blasted on your own video link, don't you think about it a little and come to your senses???

Look he is just not a very smart person, And everyone is expecting this not so smart of a person to have practiced, and become ethical? You know the saying??? "You cant fix stupid" and unfortunately there are stupid people that hunt and so like everything else a few bad apples will ruin it for the whole bunch. This is the type of stuff that the anti's drool over cause you know all of us hunters are just like this

It was on another topic where a convo about shooting at running game. One response was that a semi auto would be hunted with in the future. IS THAT REALLY WHAT HUNTING IS ABOUT NOW, MOST BULLETS IN GAME ANIMAL?
