What's missing here?
« on: December 01, 2014, 03:17:32 PM »
I've got a t/c black diamond XR and the ramrod won't stay in place. I popped re stock off to see if I could figure out what was up. No idea if something's missing. Here's what is got. This would be right in front of the trigger. Anybody have one they could look at and see if I'm missing something?
Thanks in advance.

Wondering if maybe I've got the wrong ramrod. Is it supposed to stick out a bit at the muzzle end?

I have the same gun and same problem. I never took off the stock to see if I was missing anything but I did wedge a piece of clothe in-between the barrel, stock, and ramrod to keep it quite and in place.

I picked it up used a while back and my buddy has had it ever since. He was close to the seller so he picked it up for me. This is the 1st I've seen it so not sure what's up with the ramrod.
Thanks.

What happens if you turn the ramrod around.  I place mine in the other direction and it works great.  The brass end can be placed on either end.

The ramrod looks like it fits perfectly, if you didn't have that attachment screwed in. From what I remember, it looks like the ramrod my Black Diamond had.

The TC Hawkins have retaining spring on the bottom of the barrel just before the rod enters the stock.

I had a ram rod that was rattling when I walked. a little electricians tape on the ram rod will fix the problem. Just put a couple wraps around the ram rod so that when the rod is in place the tape snugs into the hole that is just down from the top of the barrel.

That's what I was going to do. Thanks.

It does mostly except there is nothing at all holding it in place. If I point the muzzle down, the rod will fall out with zero resistance.

Holy crap. Kinda feel like a bit of a giant dummy. I unscrewed that end piece and screwed it on the other end, flipped the rod around the other way...and it works fine. Geez. Thanks Bob. Gonna go sulk now.

I have the same gun, I was going to say mine works fine and it's the stock rod.  It isn't very snug though, if I point the gun down and tap on the butt, it will come out. I found out one thing this year, don't over tighten your nipple! Mine broke off inside the breech plug, snug is plenty!

I have rhe same gun and same Ramiro. I also have the same problem. I found that there was part of the stock that would put tension on the ram rod. When I turned my ram rod around like that it seemed that the grooves in the ram rod chewed away a bit of the plastic in the stock. Making the ram rod loose. I found a small piece of spring steel and used electrical tape to secure it where I wanted it. Now I dont have an issue anymore.
It's not the size of the trophy that make's it a trophy.

I don't think you need that patch jag on the rod all the time. Just something to loose I the woods.
Put it in your possible bag till you need it. :twocents:
