Starting Elk Hunting
« on: January 14, 2015, 10:00:38 AM »
Some background on me.  I grew up in Kennewick and have been hunting ducks, geese, pheasant, and deer my whole life.  I currently hunt deer every year in the Curlew Lake area, as we have some property over there as well as my brother lives in the area.  We are looking to start hunting elk this year and would love to do it on the East side of the state.

I could do some hunting near the Vader area as my moms family has land in that area, but the foot rot thing has me not wanting to eat those animals.  BTW, this is a a meat hunt for me and my party.  Although it would be great to knock a big bull down, I am more interested in the meat and camping experience.

My question to those of you in the NE corner of the state, where would you start scouting?  Not looking for specific spots.  I am thinking of muzzle load because of the higher rate of harvest.  Thanks for any tips you might have...

Good luck this year. You will be hooked for life. The NE corner is the most tight lipped spot in the state. You might consider requesting info via personal message for better results. Your brother might be able to find some local knowledge if he asks around... Another tip is to search this site for old threads on NE elk or by GMU #. There are elk there, if you can locate them this year you will be way ahead of the learning curve.
